About

Sport Ju-Jitsu New Zealand is a non-profit, non-political service organisation whose constitutional aims are:

The fostering, development and promotion of Sport Ju-Jitsu in New Zealand and the representation of New Zealand in international competition.

Aims
Sport Ju-Jitsu New Zealand was founded in 1999 to provide a vehicle for the unification of the various formats of sporting ju-jitsu for the following reasons:

  • to develop closer ties between ju-jitsu clubs and organisations
  • to improve the standard of ju-jitsu in New Zealand
  • to promote ju-jitsu within New Zealand
  • to provide rankings and titles recognised nationally and internationally
  • to select international representatives without bias, based on performance
  • to provide preparation for competitors for overseas competition
  • to standardise and improve the level of refereeing

Today, all of these aims are just as relevant as when they were first promoted.

In 2003 the New Zealand Ju-Jitsu Federation was founded to oversee all ju-jitsu in New Zealand. SJJ(NZ) became a sub-branch of NZJJF with the duty of administrating the sporting side of ju-jitsu, while JJ(NZ) was created to administer the non-sporting side of ju-jitsu.

    Structure
NZJJF is structured such that one of the five committee members is the CEO for SJJ(NZ). The CEO is responsible for administrating NZJJF policy regarding sport ju-jitsu in New Zealand and internationally.

The SJJ(NZ) CEO is supported by officers taking the position of:
  • Tournament Director
  • Referees' Programme administrator
  • Elite Athletes' Programme administrator
  • other officers appointed by the CEO as needed
